OTMI001, by Anz, kicks off with “Unravel in the Designated Zone”, an offering that seems to revel in presenting a number of sensibilities, only to subvert them with each successive element until the main groove kicks in. A bright and bawdy synth punctuates the soundscape, sitting atop syncopated drum work and tight bass grooves, before kicking right into the more driving latter half of the track. This EP’s standout offering is brave, bold, and an excellent contrast to the release’s second half.
“Morphing into Brighter” provides the dustier, darker B-side to the glittering euphoria of the intro track. With breaks and jungle influences scattered throughout, from the vocal one-shots to the skittish drums, the second track progressively swells into its uplifting conclusion—a fitting representation of a track that the artist herself notes is about ‘building again’.
OTMI001 makes for a euphoric, introspective, and positively club-ready two-tracker, which would sound equally at home through a pair of headphones, or blasting out of a club rig.
