“Umbra”, by Yak, is pure sunny day percussive joy. Heads are nodding. With headphones on, one could picture bees and dragonflies playing over a bed of flowers. Minor dramas play out, alongside subplots of diligence or fancy. People talk about bees dancing. This is definitely on the soundtrack.
The second track on the EP, “Kaepora”, is more of a riddim, following a thread more closely, where “Umbra” wandered. It’s just enough, changing sample packs without losing the plot. The percussion is wonderful, going in off-kilter at times, just to keep you on your toes. I really love this tune.
